Common Issues
The add-in does not appear in Excel
If the Rostery add-in is not showing up in Excel, try these steps:
- Check that you have installed the add-in correctly via the Office Add-ins store
- Verify that your Excel version is up to date
- Restart Excel completely
- If using Excel on the web, clear your browser cache and reload
Optimization fails with an error
If optimization fails, check the following:
- Your template structure has not been modified (no added/removed rows or columns)
- All constraint values (max shifts per day, etc.) are valid numbers
- Your internet connection is stable
Template generation is slow or fails
For issues with template generation:
- Try smaller template parameters first (fewer staff, days, or shifts)
- Check if Excel is running low on memory
- Close other Excel workbooks and applications
Optimization takes too long
If optimization is taking too long:
- Large schedules (many staff/days/shifts) naturally take longer to optimize
- Consider breaking your schedule into smaller periods (e.g., weekly instead of monthly)
- Check your internet connection speed and stability
