Common Issues

The add-in does not appear in Excel

If the Rostery add-in is not showing up in Excel, try these steps:

  1. Check that you have installed the add-in correctly via the Office Add-ins store
  2. Verify that your Excel version is up to date
  3. Restart Excel completely
  4. If using Excel on the web, clear your browser cache and reload

Optimization fails with an error

If optimization fails, check the following:

  1. Your template structure has not been modified (no added/removed rows or columns)
  2. All constraint values (max shifts per day, etc.) are valid numbers
  3. Your internet connection is stable

Template generation is slow or fails

For issues with template generation:

  1. Try smaller template parameters first (fewer staff, days, or shifts)
  2. Check if Excel is running low on memory
  3. Close other Excel workbooks and applications

Optimization takes too long

If optimization is taking too long:

  1. Large schedules (many staff/days/shifts) naturally take longer to optimize
  2. Consider breaking your schedule into smaller periods (e.g., weekly instead of monthly)
  3. Check your internet connection speed and stability
