Frequently Asked Questions

Rostery is an Excel add-in that helps you create and optimize staff schedules. It works directly within Microsoft Excel, allowing you to create optimized schedules while respecting employee preferences and business constraints.

Rostery integrates seamlessly with Microsoft Excel as an add-in. You'll see a Rostery tab in the Excel ribbon that gives you access to all features. You can generate schedule templates, mark staff preferences and availability, and optimize schedules directly in your spreadsheet.

Yes, Rostery requires an internet connection to access its optimization service. Your schedule data is securely sent to our servers for processing and the optimized schedule is returned to your Excel worksheet.

Rostery can handle various scheduling constraints including: staff availability, staff preferences for certain shifts, maximum shifts per day/week/month, required staff per shift, and business closure days.

Absolutely! Rostery is designed for iteration. You can review the optimized schedule, make manual adjustments if needed, and re-optimize as many times as you want until you're satisfied with the results.

You should not add, remove, or move rows, columns, or formulas in the template. These modifications will break the functionality of the optimizer. If you need a different template structure, generate a new template with the appropriate parameters instead.

Since the schedule is created in Excel, you can use Excel's built-in export features to save it as PDF, CSV, or other formats. Rostery itself doesn't provide additional export functions.

For unique scheduling constraints, consider using manual assignments (A) to implement special cases before running the optimizer. For enterprise customers, we can also develop custom constraint handling. Contact our support team to discuss your specific needs.
